Sigma Unveils New DP2x Camera With Improvements Over Predecessor

Sigma has unveiled today what will be the successor to the Sigma DP2, the Sigma DP2x. The new DP2x incorporates a host of new features for the DP range of compact digital cameras and even brings in a new sensor from the Sigma SD14 DSLR.

Sigma will launch the DP2x with a 14 megapixel Foveon X3 ASP-C CMOS sensor, a new and faster auto-focus system with nine-point focusing, an analog front end that converts full color data into a digital signal, a 24.2mm f2.8 lens specially designed for the DP2x, JPEG and RAW shooting modes and a 2.5-inch LCD. All of those things are the positive things you will see in the DP2x the one real big negative –if you were looking for this feature– is the movie/video mode, Sigma states the DP2x will only record video at 320 x 240 pixel resolution at 30fps.
The Sigma DP2x like many new Sigmas will come with the Sigma Photo Pro software, which allows you to convert RAW images among other things. At this time Sigma hasn’t announced a firm price or release date for the upcoming DP2x, when that info is released expect an update.
