Panasonic has just released details for a new LUMIX rugged camera they will be launching in March. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 will feature the typical rugged features; dustproof casing, freeze-proof (up to 14 degrees Fahrenheit), shockproof (6.6 feet) and waterproof (40 feet). The camera doesn’t stop there since you will most likely be taking this camera on trips to all sorts of out of the way places Panasonic outfitted it with built-in GPS receiver, altimeter, barometer, and compass for precise Geo-tagging for your images and your Full HD video captures.
Notice I said Full HD video, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 will be capable of Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution) recording. The camera can achieve this with help from it’s 12.1 MP CCD image sensor in accordance with the new Venus FHD Engine can record video at up Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution). The TS3 like the LUMIX DMC-FX78 from earlier records your HD video in your choice of AVCHD or QuickTime Motion JPEG compression standards.
Some other features included/not included with the TS3 that are important include the absence of an optical or electronic viewfinder –the camera will instead depend on the 2.7-inch LCD with 230k dot resolution for framing your photos–. However the camera will have a 23-point auto-focus system with the option for using the camera in single-point focusing mode –the TS3 has a 4x optical zoom lens with Mega OIS Image Stabilization–. On the camera you will be supplied with a face detection system that is a bit special in the way that it auto-adjust focus and exposure to get the best shot of the subjects face. The camera functionality wise will be able to convert 2D images to 3D in the camera.
Panasonic will also include with the TS3 Intelligent Scene Selection function for both photo and video capture. When engaged in photo capture you can set the camera to Intelligent Scene Selection and the camera will select from a set of six presets — Macro, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Portrait, Scenery and Sunset–. When engaged in video capture you have four presets — Low Light, Macro, Portrait and Scenery–.
To round things out the TS3 will also come with HDMI output, Panasonic VIERA Link (streams content to VEIRA HDTV’s only), USB 2.0 output, MMC & SD & SDHC & SDXC memory card support, 19MB of built-in memory, lithium-ion battery (up to 310 shots), PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.1 HD Lite Edition software, and a trial version of the Super LoiLoScope video editing software.
For the price of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 we will all have to wait until 30 days before the camera is launched. Panasonic will be launching the TS3 sometime in March with four body color options: Blue, Orange , Red and Silver. For now you can check out the TS3 in all it’s splendor in the gallery below.
