Nikon UK, 9 Feb 2011 - Nikon today strengthens its COOLPIX Performance range with two new models that raise the bar for high functionality in a compact body. The COOLPIX P300 is a brand new model for the P-series, aimed at those who are passionate about photography and want to use the full capacity of a superior compact camera. The COOLPIX P500 replaces the highly-acclaimed P100 advanced bridge camera, and packs in an even more impressive zoom range.

To ensure sharp shooting in any situation, both cameras feature a highly sensitive back illuminated CMOS image sensor, so that even in low light or extremely bright conditions, shots are recreated exactly as you experienced them.

Sander van Velzen, Product Manager for Consumer Products at Nikon Europe comments: “Discerning photography enthusiasts will love the new P300: not only does it look good, but the newly-developed super bright f/1.8, 24mm wide angle zoom lens produces stunning, true-to-life images with outstanding resolution and detail. Meanwhile, the P500 has a versatility that fans of its predecessor will recognize, but offers an even bigger range, with 36x zoom from 22.5mm ultra wide-angle to 810mm super-telephoto coverage.”

For complete creative control – the COOLPIX P300
Ensuring excellent image quality and user experience, the COOLPIX P300 is a powerful compact with an incredibly bright lens that delivers beautiful results, particularly when shooting at night or in challenging lighting conditions. The specially crafted NIKKOR lens offers a fast f/1.8 aperture, starts at an ultra-wide 24mm and has 4.2x zoom. It also employs Nikon’s High Refractive lndex glass to deliver sharp images with high contrast.
The COOLPIX P300 helps unleash the user’s photographic potential, with full manual controls offering four exposure modes: Programmed Auto (P), Shutter-priority (S), Aperture-priority (A) and Manual (M). Combined with a highly sensitive 12.2 megapixel back illuminated CMOS image sensor, this camera offers the creative freedom to capture scenes just as you see them, whether in bright daylight or atmospheric dimness.

Also ensuring that you get the shot you want is the camera’s high-speed continuous shooting function. Users can take up to 7 continuous shots at eight frames per second; perfect for capturing moving objects or creating a montage.

When you want to capture more than one moment, simply switch to Full (1080p) HD movie recording with stereo sound. Optical zoom and autofocus are available during recording and you can capture a photo while still filming. The P300 can film in slow or fast motion using recording speeds of up to 120fps (VGA), giving even more creative freedom.

Images and movies can be reviewed on the large 7.5 cm (3 in.) 921k-dot LCD monitor which offers vivid colour reproduction and sharp contrast. Boasting Nikon’s Clear Color Display technology, it reduces power consumption and minimizes reflections, even in bright sunlight.

The COOLPIX P300 will be available in black.
High-power zoom that has it covered – the COOLPIX P500
A superb performer with incredible range, the compact COOLPIX P500 boasts an astounding 36x zoom, a tiltable high resolution 921K dot LCD monitor and Full (1080p) HD movie recording. Whether capturing a sweeping vista or getting up close to wildlife, the camera’s ultra 22.5mm wide-angle to 810mm super-telephoto coverage will make sure you get the shot you want.

Perfect for capturing distant objects and bringing them closer, such as in sports or wildlife photography, the 36x superzoom offers impressive capabilities. A unique side control lever also enables smooth, steady zooming throughout the long zoom range when shooting photos or movies.

Anti-blur technology within the camera counters blurred images in seven key ways:
Hybrid VR (Sensor-shift and Electronic Vibration Reduction) reduces the effect of camera shake and can be set simultaneously for additional protection
High ISO (up to 3200) light sensitivity reduces the risk of blurred images with fast-moving subjects or in low-light
Motion detection compensates for camera and subject movement
Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically selects the sharpest of up to 10 sequential shots
Night Portrait Mode combines images with varying exposure to counter blur
Night Landscape mode lets you shoot sharp images at low ISO
HDR backlight mode offers impressive tonal detail in any situation

When filming in Full (1080p) HD with stereo sound, not only are the optical zoom and autofocus functions available, but you can also capture a photo at any time. Giving even more options, the COOLPIX P500 can film in slow or fast motion using recording speeds of up to 240fps (QVGA). What’s more, a built-in HDMI connector with HDMI-CEC support enables you to link the P500 directly to an HD-enabled TV, and view your photos and films with family and friends.

The tiltable LCD monitor will help you discover your creative side, making it easy to take shots from above or below and immortalize scenes that are just are you remember them. Advanced exposure modes also allow control over key settings and a dedicated continuous shooting button allows quick switching from single-frame to continuous shooting.

About Nikon
Founded in Japan in 1917, Nikon has grown to become the world leader in digital and precision optics technology with a strong presence in all four corners of the world.

Through its award-winning product line-up, including entry-level and professional digital SLR cameras, interchangeable NIKKOR lenses and the consumer COOLPIX range, Nikon regularly raises the standard in product design and performance. With over 90 years of engineering expertise, it is no wonder that Nikon is the top choice for photographers around the world.

In 2009, Nikon celebrated two key milestones in the lens category – the 50th anniversary of its legendary F-mount SLR lens-mounting system, making it the only manufacturer to sustain its original lens mount for such a long period, and has recently exceeded production of over 55 million NIKKOR lenses. Both highlight Nikon’s dedication to producing quality and functional products that can be used by photographers for years to come.

Nikon also produces equipment such as IC and LCD steppers and scanners, instruments such as microscopes and semiconductor inspection equipment. Other products include sports optics products such as binoculars, rangefinders and fieldscopes, ophthalmic lenses and surveying instruments. It is the only major optical company in the world that still controls and manufactures every aspect of its glass-making business, allowing it to finely tune Nikon lens specifications, quality and performance.
